Vaccines against Covid-19 developed by Chinese laboratories Sinovac (Coronavac) and Sinopharm, based on inactivated viruses, need to be administered in three doses, informed this Monday (11) experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) who analyzed the global vaccination program.

“All the evidence indicates that a third dose of these same vaccines or similar ones is needed,” Mexican Alejandro Cravioto, president of the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts, commented at a press conference on Chinese vaccines.

The WHO recommendation may affect not only the vaccination campaigns in China, where most of the 2.2 billion doses administered are from these laboratories, but also from countries in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe that imported and used these immunization agents. , like Brazil.

Cravioto also stated that these third doses should be aimed first at people over 60 years of age, the age group that showed more problems in responding to the coronavirus when vaccinated with the formulas from Sinovac and Sinopharm.

The specialist also opened the door for people who received the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines to receive a booster dose of some other vaccine approved by the WHO, such as Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen and AstraZeneca.
