During the riots in the Capitol, the building of the US Congress, on January 6, 2021, a woman was killed. She turned out to be 35 years old Ashley Babbitt, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a staunch supporter of President Trump, reports Fox News.
A video from the scene posted on Twitter shows that the shot was fired by a security guard while Ashley was trying to climb through the broken window. The bullet hit the woman in the chest, the police tried to help the wounded, but she died soon after.
What is known about the deceased Ashley Babbitt?
Ashley lived in San Diego, California, where she and her husband owned a joint business. The woman’s husband was not in Washington at the time of the events. In an interview with KUSI News, he said that Ashley Babbitt is a veteran and served 14 years in the US Air Force as a “high-ranking security officer.” According to him, she was a patriot of her country and actively supported the candidacy of President Trump.
“I really don’t know why she decided to do this,” the mother-in-law of the deceased told Fox News when asked why Babbitt decided to take part in the protest and storming the Congress building.
The day before the events, Ashley tweeted a comment on the Trump fan community, which spoke of her resolve to participate in the protests in Washington. “Nothing will stop us … They may try, try and try, but the storm is already here, and it will descend on Washington in less than 24 hours … From darkness to light!” – she wrote.
