The labour reform proposal by the Government has been approved this afternoon in the Congress of Deputies with a more than tight vote. With 175 votes in favor and 174 againstYolanda Díaz has been able to carry out one of the most sought-after projects since she came to the coalition government, but not without first going through a moment of maximum tension.
With the negative votes confirmed by PP, Vox, PNV, ERC, Bildu, Junts, CUP, BNG, Foro Asturias and the surprise of two UPN deputies that they skipped the party discipline, everything seemed to indicate that the balance fell on the side of the opposition. However, and after a first error in the count, the unexpected protagonist was Alberto Casero Avila, PP deputy.
Who is Alberto Casero Avila?
Alberto Casero Avila (43 years old), Law degree from the University of Extremadura, was launched in Congress as PP deputy in the XIII legislature. A native of Cáceres, the Extremaduran made a fatal mistake for his party with the telematic vote by voting in favor of Yolanda Díaz’s labor reform. It should be noted that this vote is the reason why the PSOE bloc and its government partners officially approve the new Labor Law.
As El País has been able to confirm, Casero could not attend Congress for health reasons, so he cast his vote electronically. Also, the deputy himself wanted appear in person at Congress to correct his mistake. However, Meritxell Batet has not allowed such allegations to be made, stating that the regulations do not contemplate this type of action.
As far as his career is concerned, Casero Ávila has been a member of the National Executive Committee of the PP since 2017, a party for which he was also a senator a few years ago. In addition, between 2015 and 2019 he held the position of First Vice President of the Extremeña Federation of Municipalities and Provinces. The mayor’s office in the town of Trujillo, Cáceres, as well as the executive secretary for the Environment and Climate Change, are other professional achievements of a politician who is right now on everyone’s lips.
