The World Health Organization (WHO) has intensified the health response after the devastating earthquake that occurred this week in eastern Afghanistan, which has left more than a thousand dead, with the shipment of almost 10 tons of medicines and medical supplies.
In a statement, the office of the UN agency for the Eastern Mediterranean, whose headquarters are in Cairo indicated that this shipment is enough for 5,400 surgeries and the medical treatment of 36,000 people during the next three months.
In addition, an additional shipment of health supplies from the WHO logistics center in Dubai is expected to arrive in the country in the coming days, the note notes.
WHO is also sending mental health and psychosocial support experts to provide emergency counseling to families affected by the earthquake.

According to Unicef, Geneva, at least 121 of the more than a thousand deaths in the earthquake are children, as well as 67 of the more than 1,600 injured.
