Chelsea president Abramovich has put the club up for sale after the conflict between Ukraine and Russia began. And several buyers have already come out who are interested in taking over the club.
Todd Boehly, co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, is leading a movement to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.
On the other hand, Hansjorg Wyss has also revealed that he has been offered the opportunity to buy the London club, making it clear that he would like to buy it as part of a consortium.
The Swiss billionaire’s net worth is estimated to be $5.1 billion as of 2022, according to the American business magazine Forbes.
Wyss amassed his wealth from manufacturing Synthes medical devices. It is now the largest manufacturer of implants to repair bone fractures.
He was also CEO and Chairman of Synthes, until resigning from the CEO position in 2017. He was president of the company until 2012, when Johnson & Johnson bought it. At the time of the sale, Wyss earned $19.7 billion and shares.
Today it has stakes in the biotechnology companies NovoCure and Molecular Partners.
Todd Boehly is an American businessman and reverse. He is currently co-founder, president and CEO of Eldridge Industries.
He currently owns 20% of the LA Dodgers baseball team. He previously led one of the largest secured loan obligation transactions in history with more than $1 billion.
Boehly has previously tried to buy soccer clubs, tried to buy the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League, but lost interest. Later in 2019, she was close to buying Tottenham for £2.3bn, but no final deal was reached.
Wyss and Boehly have not been the only ones interested in buying Chelsea.
90min revealed that Sir Jam Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s wealthiest men, was interested in a bid for the club but has withdrawn from the bid.
An unlikely candidate is Ireland’s Conor McGregor. The former UFC featherweight and double lightweight champion posted a tweet in which his interest in buying a club was shown.
He has previously shown interest in buying Manchester United, but with a net worth of £135m he could hardly finance a takeover of an elite football club.
