New strains of coronavirus are triumphant over vaccines due to their high infectivity. This was stated by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Ghebreyesus, his words are reported by TASS…
“The COVID-19 options are now winning the race with vaccines due to inequalities in the production and distribution of vaccines, which also threaten the global economic recovery,” said the head of the WHO. He criticized the strategy of “vaccine nationalism”, as a result of which a small group of countries have the “lion’s share” of drugs for coronavirus.
Gebreyesus noted that the authorities of a number of states are prematurely weakening epidemiological security measures for the population. He recalled that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet, and in many regions there is a sharp increase in the incidence.
The head of WHO pointed to the shortage of oxygen and medical equipment in India, Africa and Latin America. “From a moral, epidemiological and economic point of view, now is the time for the world to unite and tackle the pandemic together,” he concluded.
On July 6, Gebreyesus said that the COVID-19 pandemic is at a very dangerous stage, despite the progress made by the world community in the fight against it. At the same time, the head of WHO stressed that the world community is making progress in controlling the pandemic. In this situation, he believes that the only way out is to support countries in the equitable distribution of personal protective equipment, tests, treatment materials and vaccines.
