The fight against coronavirus may require more ambitious action in some countries around the world. This opinion was expressed by the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Russian Federation Melita Vujnovich on Wednesday, September 16.
“It cannot be ruled out that somewhere more ambitious measures will be required, but this will depend on the scenario of the virus transmission,” she said on Wednesday on the Russia 24 TV channel.
There are four such scenarios. According to the first of them, there are no cases of coronavirus in the country, the second is the import of the virus into its territory, the third is when the transmission of the virus “along the chain” starts within the state, and the fourth is a general transfer, when people do not know when and where they got infected. reminded Vujnovich.
All WHO recommendations, according to her representative, are updated in accordance with epidemic analyzes. At the same time, she clarified that today the virus has not mutated, becoming more deadly or changing its characteristics of an infectious disease.
An outbreak of COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus occurred in Wuhan, China at the end of December, then the virus began to spread in other countries. On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) described the spread of coronavirus in the world as a pandemic. It covered 213 countries of the world.
According to the International Bureau of Statistics Worldometer, since the beginning of the spread of a new type of coronavirus, more than 29.7 million cases of infection have been confirmed, 940 thousand people have died due to complications due to infection, more than 21.5 million patients have been cured.
