The territories of Donetsk and Lugansk are in dispute between Russia and Ukraine.

The pro-Russian separatist territory of Donetsk, in the east of Ukraineclaimed on Wednesday that it was recognized as a state by North Koreawho on his side has not announced it.

The diplomatic representation of the separatists in Moscow broadcast on Telegram a photo of their representative Olga Makeieva when she received what she presents as a letter of recognition from the North Korean ambassador Sin Hong Chol.

Shortly before, the leader of the separatist territory of Donetsk, Denis Pushilin, had announced this recognition by the North Korean authorities.

“It is a new victory for our diplomacy,” he told AFP. The other pro-Russian separatist territory in eastern Ukraine, Lugansk, made no such announcement.
