The Data Integration Center (CID) established in Valencia by DANA has released this Wednesday a x-ray of the victims caused by the stormwhich reflects that the majority of the deceased died in their homes or in garages.
The document estimates the number of victims caused to date by DANA in the province of Valencia at 222. one of them yet to be identified. Of the 221 that have already been identified (132 men and 89 women), the place where the body was removed by the judicial authority is detailed for the first time.
Thus, according to CID data, 70 of the 221 bodies were found in private homes (31.6% of the total)which determines that the flood surprised many victims in their own homes, mainly on the ground floor of buildings or one-story houses.
The garages were another death trap for many of the victims, since 31 bodies were found in those premises (14%). Many tried save your vehicles from the floodtaking a risk that ended up being lethal. In addition, there are 3 other bodies that were found in supermarket parking lots that were not underground and another two inside vehicles.
Likewise, the CID report includes 7 other victims found in basementswhich were not garages, among them the two civil guards who died in the Paiporta barracks.
The street (29 victims) or the field (27) are the other two places where the most removals of corpses have been carried out, although they also stand out those carried out on the road (15) or in nursing homes (12). Other places where bodies have been found are riverbeds or irrigation ditches (5), ravines (3), beaches (3), industrial estates (3) or even in an elevator (2) or a sports center (1). ).
The CID report also details for the first time the day on which the deceased were admitted to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Valencia for autopsies. These data reflect that 75% of the corpses arrived in the three days after the tragedywhich occurred last Tuesday, October 29. The day after, 50 bodies were admitted, and the next day, Thursday, October 31, 64 bodies were registered, the day that the most deaths arrived at the morgue. However, the arrival of bodies remained at similar figures for another day, on Friday, November 1 (51).
From then on, most of the victims had already been found and the flow of bodies that entered the Institute of Legal Medicine began, fortunately, to decrease exponentially: 14 on Saturday, November 2 and 9 the next day. The last survey of the 221 identified bodies occurred on November 21.
2 out of 10 victims died in Paiporta
The CID report also shows the place where the bodies were found, Paiporta being ground zero of the tragedya, since 45 fatalities were found in its municipal area (20% of the total). The second municipality with the most registered victims is Catarroja (25), followed by the city of Valencia (16) and Alfafar (15).
Regarding the age of the victims, the CID details that 7 children under 10 years old died and two other minors. However, as in previous reports, the age distribution shows that nearly half of the DANA fatalities in Valencia were over 70 years old (106), the age group hardest hit by the tragedy.
It also shows that there were victims of up to 12 different nationalities, with Spaniards being the ones who have died the most (195 deaths). Of the 26 foreigners who have died, the majority were Romanians (9). The rest had the following nationalities: Morocco (4), China (4), United Kingdom (2), Ecuador (1), Venezuela (1), Ukraine (1), Holland (1), Tunisia (1), Colombia ( 1) and Paraguay (1).
