WhatsApp is about to introduce a series of new features based on artificial intelligence: one of the most interesting additions we will see in the coming months is the ability to create images generated by artificial intelligence. Currently, the messaging app is testing a simpler way to allow users to create these images to share with friends and contacts – the option was spotted in the beta version for Android 2.24.11.17, released this week.
The option is currently only available to select testers who already have access to Meta’s AI chatbot. Users in countries like India have in fact had a preview of the chatbot powered by Llama, Meta’s AI, available on WhatsApp since April. Numerous users have reported the update that introduces Meta’s AI chatbot into their chat feed on WhatsApp, positioned just below the + icon that allows you to start a new conversation. For iPhone users, the Meta AI icon appears in the search bar at the top of the interface.
As for the new shortcut to create AI-generated images, WhatsApp is adding the Meta AI icon inside the attachment box called “Image”. Tapping this icon opens a Meta AI chatbot dialog, asking you to write a prompt based on which the model will generate the image. The integration between WhatsApp and Meta’s AI chatbot won’t stop there: the messaging app intends to offer users the ability to create and use AI-generated profile photos. WhatsApp is not the only messaging app to benefit from the power of AI: last week Microsoft released its Copilot as a bot for Telegram users, which allows you to create poems, summarize articles and translate content with the help of a prompt.
