WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, the main Meta platforms, have caused problems for their users that did not allow the correct publication of messages and communication of shipments. According to the website DownDetectorspecialized in recording mishaps in internet-connected services in real time, messages did not load and had problems being sent, as many users have reported.
The aforementioned website has registered reports of poor service since 8:00 p.m. (Spanish peninsula), with a peak of thousands of global reports about 15 minutes later. Communications have recovered as of 8:30 p.m., although on Instagram, the most visual platform, the problems persist.
We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we're working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible
— WhatsApp (@WhatsApp) April 3, 2024
Shortly before 9:00 p.m., the company acknowledged the problems in its WhatsApp account on the X network: “We know that some people are experiencing problems right now, we are working on restoring things to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible. possible”. On that same social network, WhatsApp reported at 0:19 a.m. that they had already resolved the incident.
The status reporting page of Meta applications registers serious failures in its Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp services: “We are currently experiencing an interruption that affects the service in the Messenger API for Instagram. This issue started on 04/03/2024 at 11:10 am PST [20.10 peninsular española]. Our engineering teams are investigating the issue. We will provide another update within 4 hours or sooner if additional information is available.” The problems were resolved at 10:45 p.m., according to that same platform.
On March 5, Meta applications suffered another global outage that caused the same inconveniences to its users, although it only affected Instagram and Facebook. This is, therefore, the second major drop in services from Mark Zuckerberg's company so far this year.
WhatsApp is the most used instant messaging system in the world, with nearly 2 billion users. The company was acquired in 2014 by Meta (then Facebook), after spending $21.8 billion.
