While in Mexico the Congress of the Union has not discussed the reform of the Federal Labor Law (LFT) For the reduction of the working day from 48 hours to 40 hours, shorter work weeks are already being implemented in other Latin American countries.
Such is the case of Brazil where a massive experiment has been launched that contemplates a 4-day work week for workers in the formal sectorand then we will tell you about the first results.
It was in June 2023 when it was announced that a pilot test would be implemented in around 22 companies in Brazilian territory, an experiment that consisted of reducing the working day to 4 days without reducing the salary of formal workers, and with 100 % productivity.
In this sense, 4Day Week Global, an organization promoting the initiative to reduce working hours in the Latin American country, has stated that the results, months after being implemented, provide certainty in the “continued success” of the labor project..
It is in this way that, according to the results, the 4-day work day in Brazil has reported greater energy, satisfaction and creativity in the work environment by the workers.
“A notable increase in productivity and project execution capacity was achieved, which reflects positively on the company’s overall performance,” is detailed in the document released by the aforementioned organization.
However, it is worth noting that the greater performance of employees with the 4-day work day in Brazil was not the only benefit reported. In this sense, 85% of workers stated that this new scheme made better collaboration between colleagues possible, and 44% stated that the relationship with employers improved.
“The perception of positive sentiment transformed by the project is notable. There were significant improvements in communication between departments and a notable change in the efficiency of meetings,” the text highlights.
Nevertheless, The 4-day work week also implies challenges for companies and workers, especially related to managing deadlines and balancing internal demands and external demands..
Likewise, almost 30% of the companies that participated in the pilito program in Brazil reported that it took time to reduce the working day to 4 days for workers in the formal sector.
Against this backdrop, 4 Day Week Global emphasized the fact that the 4-day work week scheme can be truly successful only if the necessary adjustments are made to address the challenges.
