Among the most charismatic characters in video games in 2020, we find the character starring Australian actor Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077, Johnny Silverhand. Since he appeared at E3 2019 and confirmed his presence in the game, Silverhand has been one of the most loved and most displayed characters on social media. But before that, there was a Johnny Silverhand in the game. What was Johnny Silverhand like before Keanu Reeves? Some arts show it to us before being played by the actor.
The information comes from Artstation, where the concept artist for CD Projekt RED, Lea Leonowicz, has shared some role models before being played by Keanu Reeves. In a way, his concept has not changed too much, where we see a futuristic rocker who preserves, as expected, his metal prosthesis. We start with the first sketches.

But obviously, the change is substantial between the character we have met in Cyberpunk 2077 and the original model to be used for Johnny Silverhand before Keanu Reeves. He maintains his mane, those aviator sunglasses, and a slim build. A pretty design stereotypical of those rockers from the 80s, with the tweaks typical of the futuristic setting of the cyberpunk genre.
To a large extent, we can see that the change that has really affected the character is the face. It has come to have an air closer to Nicolas Cage, than to Keanu Reeves. And we may have gotten so used to the final character that these designs seem a bit strange. Now, the character is clearly identifiable and almost manages to convey that personality that has finally been played by the Australian actor.

Among the most iconic elements of Johnny Silverhand there are his physical features, such as the prosthesis, such as his slim constitution, the scars and the tattoos. In this section the change is minimal, but they reflect that from the beginning they were clear about the design they wanted for this second protagonist of the adventure. In these first concepts the design is very close to the final design, saving the distance from the face. Cyberpunk 2077 is available on both Xbox, like Playstation, as well as Google Stadia and PC. The game has just received the first big update of the two that are expected.
