“It is difficult for us in our geographic area to find 200 people with complete secondary school,” was the phrase of the president of Toyota Argentina, Daniel Herrero, regarding the difficulty of the company to incorporate employees to its plant in Zárate.
Osvaldo Caffaro, mayor of the City, met with the managers of the firm to analyze this situation, although he avoided entering into controversy and said that the businessman’s phrase was “out of context.”
“We have a very strong relationship with Toyota, it is a first-rate international company, so quickly yesterday we tried to put together a bunch of programs that we had loose, “he said in a dialogue with Radio Diez.
During the past year, it was the company that produced the most in the country and also exported close to 50% of the total operations of the Argentine automotive industry.
The communal chief said that one of those plans aims for young people to have access to “an introductory module to the world of work”, which is about a leveling course in two or three months, “so that this does not happen that there are 200 young people between Zárate and Campana who finished high school and do not have the capacity – according to Toyota – to integrate their campus.”
The Toyota factory in Zárate returns to production after restrictions.
The president of Toyota expressed his concern during a talk at the Rotary Club, in Buenos Aires, where he said that “the value of a secondary was lost”.
The communal chief picked up the glove of the executive’s proposal and argued that this situation is achieved by working together between the public and private sectors.
In April, the irruption of the second wave of coronavirus forced the automotive company to halt its production because it did not have the number of workers necessary to maintain activity.
As detailed by the mayor, the company has a plant of 4,900 people, of that number around 60% comes from up to 250 kilometers away, which with the isolation measures “have been greatly affected.”
“More than ever there must be local or nearby labor. We are working with SMATA, a very active union, in a vocational training school and also training people for the labor issue, “said Caffaro.
At the same time, he insisted on the concrete proposal of his management for the young people of the city who have work. “The idea is to start as soon as possible by these people that Toyota has to incorporate and that will also serve us in the case of Atucha, where 400 workers have entered and the idea is that there are another 400 more,” concluded Caffaro.
