The Algerian Boxer Imane Khelif will not be able to participate in boxing world championships planned from March 8 to 16 in Serbia. The International Boxing Association (IBA) organizes the competition. “It does not meet the eligibility criteria,” according to the Federation. It refers to issues related to testosterone levels considered too high.
Imane Khelif’s case had exploded in the summer of 2024 at the Paris Olympic Games, and had also caused controversy due Metallic of the Iba.
Khelif had already been excluded from the World Cup organized by the one in 2023 for the same reasons. However, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) had considered that the IBR tests were “defective and illegitimate” and admitted it to the France Games the following year.
But what was the way?
Founded in 1946, until December 2020 it was called Aiba. It is an International Amateur Boxing Federation. It is believed that it is very influenced, if not under the control, of Russia. It is the federation responsible for organizing the boxing world championships. The IBA was until 2023 the reference federation for the IOC (the boxing federations are numerous, each with their own belts and champions). That year was expelled, being also the first time that the IOC made such a decision in its more than 100 years of history. In 2019 there had already been problems with the committee (about arbitration, financial stability and governance). A new encounter occurred when it was chosen as president to Uzbeko Gafur Rakhimov. Rakhimov was described by the United States Department of the Treasury as one of his country’s “main criminals” and suspected of being very involved in heroin traffic. In 2020 his position was occupied by the Russian Umar Kremlev. It has its headquarters in Russia and is mainly funded by Gazprom, the state oil and gas company in the country, so it has adapted to the Kremlin agenda.
Who is the president of the IBA
The president of the IBA is Umar Kremlev. Of Russian nationality and considered close to the Kremlin, he assumed the position in 2020 and will hold it until 2026. 41 years, the biographical notes on the Federation’s website affirm that “during its presidency he dedicated all his efforts to restore the financial integrity of It was already implementing sports and governance reforms. ” In addition, the biography continues, “he focused on improving the level of the sporting events of the IBA, turning boxing into a powerful tool for ascending social mobility by establishing a metal awards fund for boxers and providing continuous support to national federations, athletes and coaches. “
The origins of Olympic boxing
It is believed that the first indications of the existence of a sport similar to modern boxing date back to 3,000 AC in Egypt. Subsequently, boxing was introduced into the 23rd Olympiad of Greece, in the year 688 AC: The winner of the competition was onomastos of Esmirna, who became the first Olympic champion in history. In 1743, Jack Brouchton introduced the first regulation: hence the discipline was called English boxing (to distinguish it from Thai or Thai boxing and other specialties).
The term ring
The quadrilateral and strings were introduced in 1838. The term ring, however, is still used in memory of the circle drawn on the ground within which the first fighting took place.
The strings
The strings became an important element of boxing: Mohammed Ali’s fight in the famous 1974 Jungle rumble against George Foreman was unforgettable.
Female boxing
Female boxing became an official discipline in 1994. In 2012, at the London Olympic Games, discipline became part of the Games program.
