What is the life of the great stars of the 2014 World Cup?

The World Cup held in Brazil in 2014 left us great players who amazed the world. Today we bring you a list of 10 players to find out what became of them after astonishing the world after his performance.

James Rodriguez

The Colombian was the big surprise of the tournament, the then Monaco player was the Golden Boot of the tournament, scoring six goals in five games. After his performance, Real Madrid signed James, later he would go on loan to Bayern Munich to return to the white team again. His stage in Spain would end when Everton took over his services, he currently plays for Al Rayyan SC

Thanks to the goal scored in the 113th minute of extra time against Argentina, Mario Götze made it possible for his team to lift the title of World Champions. The then-Bayern Munich player signed in the 2016/17 season for his former club, Borussia Dortmund. Later he would sign for his current club, PSV Eindhoven

Stefan de Vrij

The Dutch center-back finished third with his team in this tournament. He scored a goal in the victory of the Netherlands against Spain. Stefan de Vrij currently plays for Inter Milan.

Arjen Robben

Together with his compatriot de Vrij, Arjen won the bronze medal of the tournament as well as the decoration of having been the third best player in the tournament, behind Muller and Leo Messi. The legendary Bayern Munich player would leave his ranks, announcing his retirement in 2019, but in 2020 he announced his return to football, signing for FC Groningen, from his native country. Arjen Robben would announce his official retirement from football in 2021, a year after returning to football.

Robin Van Persie

The then-Manchester United striker left Brazil with the bronze medal around his neck. In the 2015/16 season he signed for Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü and later for Feyenoord, where he would end up retiring, he is currently the forwards coach of said club.

Oscar

The Brazilian did a good performance in the World Cup held in his country, achieving fourth place in the tournament. He played for Chelsea until 2016, after which he signed for Shanghai Port, the club for which he currently plays.

He participated scoring in the historic win of seven goals to one against Brazil. He would end up winning the gold medal of the competition. The merengue player would later play for Juventus and in 2021 he would return to Germany, more specifically to Hertha Berlin, where he would end up retiring.

Leo Messi

Even with a magnificent tournament, they did not get Argentina to take home the trophy, they were overtaken by Germany. That was not an impediment for Messi to take the Golden Ball of the tournament. The culé player would leave the club in which he played for more than 20 years to land in the Parisian capital. He currently plays for PSG.

Miroslav Close

Apart from winning gold with his national team, he managed to surpass Ronaldo as the top scorer in World Cup history. He would end his career at Lazio and is currently dedicated to the bench, he became Hansi Flick’s assistant coach, leaving office in May 2021

William Ochoa

He was one of the revelations of the tournament, being one of the best goalkeepers in the 2014 World Cup. After his great performance he signed for Málaga, from where he left on loan to Granada, later, Stardard de Liège took over the services of the Mexican goalkeeper. In 2019 he would return to Club América, where he currently plays.
