Mexican authorities investigate this Thursday the alleged feminicide of Diana Gabriela García, sister of the well-known singer of the Mexican regional genre Virlán Garcíain the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado, in the state of Sonora, on the border with the United States.

Witnesses to the events assured the authorities that, After murdering his girlfriend, the alleged attacker tried to set fire to the house to erase any evidence.
This case is reported in Mexico, where there is a crisis of sexist violence with an average of 10 women murdered a day, according to figures from UN Women.

Other statistics indicate that each year in the country more than 3,000 women, girls and adolescents are murdered, although only around 24 percent of that figure is counted as femicides.
But feminist and civil society organizations warn that It is very likely that this number, in reality, is much higher due to the problems that exist in prosecutors’ offices and courts to investigate and judge with a gender perspective.
What is known about the alleged feminicide?

The firefighters notified the Ministerial Criminal Investigation Agency (AMIC), which processed the crime scene to begin the investigation file.

“This social representation has initiated an investigation with a gender perspective that has led to the capture of the person who appears as the probable responsible,” reported the State Prosecutor’s Office, without providing further details in this regard, such as the place of detention.
It is expected that in the next few hours the authorities will release more details of the investigation.

Who is Virlán García?
The family tragedy has shocked his followers, revealing the fragility of life and vulnerability to violence. On Facebook, producer and musician Salvador Yeo shared a post that explains the alleged facts mentioned and wrote that “it is true.” “Two little ones without their mommy. We are going to miss you a lot”he noted in the publication, which he accompanied with photographs of his “little friend.”

For now, Virlán García has not issued any statement on her social networks for the femicide of her sister.
