More than 30 years after the disappearance of three minors, the alleged kidnapper and rapist has not been found. In fact, there is not even a physical description of who it could be.
According to what the Police commented at the time, it is believed that he is a highly intelligent man and that, possibly, he is still alive today.
His crimes took place in the late 1980s and early 1990s in Melbourne, Australia.
What happened?
Three crimes are associated with the name of ‘Mr. Cruel’as the press began to call him due to the absence of a real identity.
The way to connect them was not only because the ‘modus operandi’ was very similar, but because the description given by the victims was also identical.
The man’s features were impossible to recognize because he always wore a black balaclava that was also sewn on the eyes and mouth, but that was precisely what allowed the cases to be connected.

The first occurred in 1988, in Ringwood, a suburb of Melbourne, during the early hours of December 27. A man armed with a knife and a small pistol entered the Wills family home, bound John and Jullie – the parents of four daughters – by the hands and feet as he walked through the house..
He took some money from the place, but also kidnapped Sharon Wills – who was 10 years old at the time – and demanded a reward to return her to her parents’ house.
The girl was found alive 18 hours later on land near Bayswater High School.
The second case occurred a little over a year later, in July 1990 in Canterbury, where, similar to what he had done before, a armed man entered a family home in the morning hours and kidnapped Nicola Lynas, a minor who was 13 years old at the time. 50 hours later, Nicola was released in a suburb near where she was kidnapped.
The third case that is associated with the man, although the Police at one point doubted if it is really connected, is the kidnapping and murder of Karmien Chan, 13 years old.
In 1991, the girl was at home in Templestowe looking after her two younger sisters when a man arrived, also with a knife, and forced two of the girls to hide in the closet while Karmien was taken away.
Unlike the other victims who returned home alive, the minor’s body was found the following year with three shots to the head.

What happened while the minors were kidnapped?
According to what the minors testified at the time, the man took them to another house where he repeatedly sexually abused them during the hours they were there.
Also, after the abuse, he made them bathe and clean themselves meticulously, probably to erase traces of their DNA.
It is also likely that the ‘Mr. Cruel ‘recorded his victims while he abused themWell, Wills managed to remove the blindfold at a time when he left her alone in the room and realized that there was a camera.
Both remember being chained from the neck to the bed and, in addition, one of the victims said that he could hear planes passing nearby, so at some point the authorities focused the search on the neighborhoods surrounding the airport without reaching any conclusion. .

Investigation without results
So far, a reward is still being offered for information on who ‘Mr. Cruel’. The police investigation has led them to review more than 30,000 houses in Australia and conduct around 27,000 interviews with possible suspects.
During some point in the investigation, the Police were able to come up with a list of seven people. However, their names or why they were identified as possible suspects was never revealed to the public.
However, in 2016, the local newspaper “Herald Sun” revealed some of the profiles – not their names, at the request of the researchers – that were part of the list of possible pedophiles.
The main suspect was a professor at the University of Melbourne who lived very close to where the attacks took place. and during the 1970s he was sentenced to prison for 10 years, for the crimes of abuse, harassment and attacks with a knife against young women.

The new theory after years of silence
Thirty years after ‘Mr. Cruel’ was one of the biggest fears of Australian families, a theory made by a new group of investigators who entered the case has come to light.
Police propose that the man may have belonged to the city’s electricity company.
The investigation reached this conclusion because the places where the girls were released were in relative proximity to power company plants, so the connection was made. Despite this, the file is still open and, probably, the subject maintains a normal life.
