The House of the Dragon
The new episode of the series shows us how the fight for the succession of the Iron Throne definitively begins, with the sides of Rhaenyra and Alicent completely opposed
In ‘The House of the Dragon’ the fight for the succession to the throne of Viserys I definitely begins, whom we have seen noticeably aged in the sixth chapter. With the king out of the picture, Rhaenyra’s rise to power is complicated. After the scandal over the paternity of the children of the princess and Leanor Velaryon, the monarch’s heiress headed to Dragonstone with her family to get away from Queen Alicent and her allies, who poison the Court against her to prevent her from rising. as the future monarch of Westeros.
The series, after five episodes of presentation and settlement of the characters, their concerns and ambitions, accelerated in the sixth episode with a time jump of ten years, after which we find the adult versions of Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and their respective children. Nothing remains between them of the friendship that we saw at the beginning of the season, and the disputes have done nothing more than shape the two sides that will fight for power. In addition, other characters such as Larys Strong, who kills her brother Harwin (father of the princess’s children) and her father Lyonel, the Hand of the King, in a fire, are gaining strength and will notably influence the future war. .
Episode 7 of ‘The House of the Dragon’
Chapter 7 shows us the first physical confrontation between both sides, that of ‘The Greens’, supporters of the succession to the throne of Aegon II, son of Viserys I and Alicent; and ‘The Blacks’, who will fight for Rhaenyra’s victory. In the preview of the next episode we will see the reunion of the princess and Daemon, at the funeral of his second wife, Laena Velaryon, in Driftmark. The Targaryen family and Velaryon meet again and the tension finally boils over when Alicent tries to slash the heiress to the throne. “Now they see you as you are,” we hear the queen say after the attack.
“This is the greatest of betrayals,” Rhaenyra reproaches the queen in their fight, although they will not be the only ones to face each other. Daemon and Sir Criston Cole will also come to blows during the match, which leaves another question mark in the air with the disappearance of Vhagar. The mightiest dragon in Westeros is left without a rider after Laena’s death and disappears in the next episode: “Someone has taken Vhagar” we hear in the trailer.
Furthermore, following the death of Lyonel Strong in the fire planned by his own son and Viserys’s failing health, more vulnerable than ever to Alicent’s manipulation, Otto Hightower could once again hold the position of Hand of the King.
The new installment of the series will arrive next Monday, October 3, and will be available in Spain from 03:00 on HBO Max.
