Westworld was canceled surprise from HBO: the TV series it won’t have a fifth season. An unexpected move, that of the network, against a show so far highly appreciated, with fifty-four Emmy nominations.
Also ended up at the center of some controversy, see for example the complaint of Bethesda, according to which Westworld was a shameless copy of Fallout Shelter, the series should have ended precisely with the fifth season, as anticipated by its creator Jonathan Nolan some time ago.
The authors of the show apparently had precise ideas on how to close it and give it an ending that lived up to expectations, a final that however at this point we will not be able to see, probably due to the decreasing ratings already starting from the third season.
HBO’s move seems strange, considering that usually producers of this type tend to end their series in some way to avoid irritating fans, finding an agreement with the authors if there are problems that require an early closure.
“Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have led viewers on a crazy odyssey, raising the bar with every step,” reads an HBO statement. “We are truly grateful to them, our talented cast, producers and crew, as well as all of our partners at Kilter FIlms, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television.”
