The actress Rachel Zegler revealed that she was not invited to the 94th edition of the Oscar Awards despite the fact that “west side story”, by Steven Spielberg, a film in which she plays María, is nominated in seven categories.
The news broke when a fan on Instagram asked Zegler what she would wear to the ceremony. Given this, the actress wrote in the comments: “I’m not invited, so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.” Without a doubt, this caused surprise in the thousands of her followers, who showed her support through networks.

In the same Instagram post, the interpreter dedicated a long message referring to her lack of invitation: “I don’t know, I’ve tried everything, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I will support (West Side Story) from my couch and be proud of the work we did so tirelessly three years ago. I hope some last minute miracle happens and I get to celebrate our movie in person, but hey, I guess that’s the way things are sometimes. Thanks for all the shock and outrage. I’m disappointed, too, but it’s okay. I am very proud of our film.”
Following outrage from his fans, Zegler further addressed the issue through his comments on Twitter. “I appreciate all the support, I really appreciate it“, wrote. “We live in unprecedented times, and it takes a lot of work behind the scenes to make movie magic happen. That goes for film productions (like the one I’m lucky enough to be currently filming in London) […] and awards programs alike. Let’s respect the process,” she remarked.
