After 0: 1 bankruptcy in Mönchengladbach starts the SV Werder Bremen with an away game in the second half of the season. On Saturday evening, the green-whites are with Hertha BSC to guest. The capital club currently has 17 points on the account, one point less than the Bremen club. Head coach Florian Kohfeldt warned in the run-up to the game, above all, of the Berlin offensive.
On Tuesday evening Werder Bremen delivered an appealing performance against Gladbach, but ended up with empty hands because some good chances were missed. The trainer from Bremen was correspondingly frustrated after the game. “The defeat is extremely annoying,” said Kohfeldt. “We had significantly better chances to score over 90 minutes, even if we weren’t consistently the better team,” continued the 38-year-old.
After the bitter defeat, it was important not to let up, said sports director Frank Baumann at the press round on Friday afternoon. “We have to keep scoring and concentrate on taking something with us tomorrow in Berlin.” However, Kohfeldt is aware that this will not be an easy task. “We’re playing against a team whose individual quality – especially in the offensive series – doesn’t belong where they are right now,” said the Werder coach. “However, we would do well to focus very much on ourselves.”
Despite the exhausting English week, there are no new losses to complain about at Werder. “But one or the other realizes that he has played a lot,” said Kohfeldt, who continues to complain about four injuries-related failures. Ludwig Augustinsson (muscular problems), Patrick Erras (hip injury), Christian Groß (muscle injury in the calf) and Niclas Füllkrug (ankle injury) are all out for the away game.

In terms of the starting eleven, it seems to be quite possible that Kohfeldt will rotate a bit and make one or two changes on the offensive. Davie Selke, who has been on loan from Hertha BSC since January 2020, can also hope for a place in the starting line-up. “It’s a special game for Davie and if we channel it properly, it could be a small advantage for us,” said the trainer, who could make his entire game system a little more offensive than last against Gladbach.
“” Milot may already be tomorrow, but at the latest against Schalke again a starting candidate “”
– Florian Kohfeldt
Selke and Josh Sargent could form the dual leadership behind Romano Schmid. Milot Rashica made a lot of activity against Gladbach after his substitution, the starting line-up is likely to come too early for the attacker. Kevin Möhwald and Maximilian Eggestein are expected in the central midfield. The cast of the flanks with Theodor Gebre Selassie and Felix Agu as well as that of the triple chain with Milos Veljkovic, Ömer Toprak and Marco Friedl remains unchanged. Jiri Pavlenka is standing between the posts as usual.
