Visma Les Abike rider Jonas Weingard was taken to hospital after a major accident during the fourth stage of the Basque Tour, which also involved Primoz Roglic and Remco Ivanpol.
The accident occurred while the racers were descending the Olaita slope 35.9 kilometers before the finish line, when one of the racers fell to the ground, triggering a chain reaction, and Weingard was still receiving treatment on the ground, minutes after the accident.
The team said on the “X” social media platform, formerly known as “Twitter,”: Jonas is on his way to the hospital. We will announce developments later.
Weingard was carried on a stretcher and wore a neck brace, and Evanpoel was taken to hospital and withdrew from the race.
