How to deal with the pandemic over the holidays? Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil is now proposing another break in contact over the New Year.
Berlin / Hanover – Lower Saxony’s head of government Stephan Weil wants to speak in the next federal-state round about contact restrictions also for vaccinated people in the period after Christmas. In an interview with the newspaper “Die Welt” he renewed his suggestion of a break in contact over the New Year.
“It is clear that there will be numerous family contacts over Christmas. Experience shows that they will again cause a number of infections, ”said the SPD politician. “So it is worth considering whether the associated infection dynamics should not be alleviated by a limited break.”
“Extended Christmas break”
Weil had already made this suggestion in interviews at the end of November and spoke of an “extended Christmas break”. The next Prime Minister’s Conference is scheduled for Thursday. This is likely to be followed by the first meeting with the new Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), who has probably been elected by then.
“Then of course we will have to think about what to do after Christmas,” said Weil. This depends on the infection process and the situation in the intensive care units. dpa
