Rusal offsets carbon footprint of Eastern Economic Forum
The largest aluminum producer Rusal and the Roscongress Foundation have agreed to compensate for the carbon footprint of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). This reported Rusal press service.
To offset its carbon footprint, the company used part of carbon unitsobtained as a result of the implementation of a climate project to protect forests from fires in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The transfer of carbon units was carried out using the Thread of Nature platform, which allows transactions with carbon units based on the marketplace principle. Thread of Nature is intended for organizations that implement climate projects, as well as for those who plan to cover their carbon footprint through the use of carbon units.

Environmental protection and nature conservation issues are always among the priorities for the Eastern Economic Forum, noted Igor Pavlov, First Deputy Director of the Roscongress Foundation and Director of the Eastern Economic Forum. He expressed hope that the cooperation between Rusal and Roscongress will become an excellent example for other events, which will help in the future to make additional efforts to reduce harm to the environment.
Earlier, during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kozlov, reported that thanks to the national project “Ecology”, 253 waste processing plants were built in Russia, almost 2 thousand kilometers of river beds were cleared and 116 kilometers of dams were built.
