It is a moment destined to go down in history, the one experienced this morning on the Fiorano circuit. At 9:37, after a series of preparatory checks, the two-time endurance world champion Alessandro Pier Guidi started the engine of the new one Ferrari Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) with which the Maranello manufacturer will face the 2023 season of the FIA WEC. The pilot from Tortona carried out the shakedown of the LMH in the presence of the managing director Benedetto Vigna. In the afternoon, Pier Guidi gave way to Nicklas Nielsen who completed the planned test program.
“After so many months spent on the simulator I was finally able to drive the real car “commented Pier Guidi, “and it was an important emotion. Driving the Ferrari that will return to the premier endurance class 50 years after the last time with official cars gave me strong emotions. We are only at the beginning and there is a lot of work ahead of us but the feelings are very positive. I am proud and happy to have brought the LMH to its debut, which marks the beginning of a new adventure for Ferrari “. Nicklas Nielsen echoed him, “It was a special day… Being among the first to bring Ferrari’s Hypercar to the track is a dream come true. Since I was a child I have dreamed of driving a Ferrari, and doing it with the car that will be at the start of the premier class is incredible. Of course, there is still a long way to go before the car’s race debut, but today we took a small step towards that moment“.
During the day, Ferrari’s engineers concentrated on checking the various propulsion and electronic systems in view of the development test sessions, alternating phases on the track with long pauses necessary for routine checks. Once again the Fiorano track, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary, has witnessed a historic momentthe one that celebrates the return of a Sport Prototype entirely produced by Ferrari in the endurance world championship.
