Peugeot Sport has carried out a shakedown of its 9X8 Hypercar with which it will soon be at the start of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
On social media, an image of the Lion prototype appeared on a road closed to traffic, with the words “Somewhere, on earth. Not in Abu Dhabi, because the track was unavailable due to F1”.
Beyond the value of this test, however, one very particular thing stands out, namely the rear axle.
Since its presentation, the 9X8 had stood out for the absence of the rear wing, with the French technicians who had stated that they did not intend to mount it, relying on simulations that equally guaranteed good downforce in this area.
In the published image, however, there is a profile and it can be clearly seen, at least on the rear wheels, while in the central part the smart digital hand of Peugeot Sport has placed its logo with Photoshop so as not to show whether it is actually a a wing or two strips placed in the upper part of the body, on top of the lights.
Another clever move that arouses further curiosity about an innovative project in full development, but still not with the certainties that it will take part in the much desired 24h of Le Mans 2022. And in addition, it should also be remembered that the same engineers of the 9X8 had not modifications excluded (including rear wing) during construction.
