In a not particularly lucky weekend, Alessio Rovera concluded the European Le Mans Series 2021 with a tenth place at the 4 Hours of Portimao in the Ferrari 488 GTE shared as a crew with French teammates François Perrodo and Emmanuel Collard.
Protagonist of an excellent seasonal ride in the continental series (2 wins and 2 third places in 4 races), in the last act in Portugal the performance of the AF Corse trio was complicated in the second part by a couple of penalties for infringement of the track limit after the start from third position among the GTEs, obtained after Rovera’s good qualifying on Saturday.
Having therefore filed the ELMS with a tenth place in the race, the driver from Varese is now already focused on the double, great final challenge in Bahrain of the Endurance World Championship, where at the moment he commands the GTE-AM class standings together with Perrodo and the Danish Nicklas Nielsen .
On the Sahkir circuit, a track on which Alessio has never raced, the FIA WEC is planning a 6 Hours and an 8 Hours in the next two weekends, starting therefore from that of 31 October.
“Unfortunately in Portugal things did not go as we wanted after a qualifying that had seen us obtain a good result anyway – admits Rovera – In any case, the result of the race did not weigh on our ranking, since it was almost impossible to grab the title with one race less disputed “.
“Now we must immediately turn the page. We return to the Endurance World Championship with renewed motivations and the only goal will be to get heavy points for the classification. We are already very focused on this. maximum”.
