G-Drive Racing will not take part in the 2022 season of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
After the outburst of the driver-team principal Roman Rusinov, who had openly declared that he did not want to submit to the new FIA regulations drawn up for Russians and Belarusians following the war in Ukraine, now the official statement has also arrived that the team will withdraw its Oreca 07 -Gibson from the LMP2 Class.
“The Russian team G-Drive Racing will not take part in the FIA WEC 2022, which starts in fifteen days in the United States. This is the 10th anniversary season of the team, which has been racing and winning international endurance races since 2013”, reads the note. official.
“In 2015, the team won the FIA WEC, establishing itself as the strongest in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) three times in a row from 2016 to 2018, and has also captured two titles in the Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS) in seasons. 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 “.
“In 2021, G-Drive Racing won the European Le Mans Series Pro-Am Cup. In terms of race and qualifying wins, they are the most successful team in the LMP2 prototype class.”

The Oreca # 26 should have gone into the hands of Daniil Kvyat, René Binder and James Allen in the Endurance World Championship, while as regards the ELMS the collaboration with Algarve Pro Racing had been confirmed in the wake of what was done at the 24h of Daytona, and in sight of a second entry to the 24h of Le Mans.
The thing that catches the eye with great regret is that neither Rusinov nor the official statement have distanced themselves from what is happening in recent days in Ukraine.
In a situation of great sadness for those who suffer and risk their lives for sins that are not their own, we spoke about the story by pointing the finger at the FIA and not looking for a solution that also to try to safeguard their image.
Indeed, having listed the successes achieved in recent years, the note goes on to explain that other paths will be taken on a sporting level.
“G-Drive Racing is actively preparing for its anniversary season, which promises to be the most active in the team’s history. The driver line-up has been reinforced by the most successful Russian Formula 1 driver, Daniil Kvyat.”
“This season G-Drive Racing will focus more on motorsport events in Russia. Further plans for the team will be announced shortly.”
