The FIA World Endurance Championship has provided further details regarding the double event in Bahrain, which between the end of October and the beginning of November will bring the 2021 season to a close.
The 6h race is scheduled for Saturday 30 October and will take place during the day, starting at 11.00 local time and ending at 17.00, when we will have sunset.
The following week is instead the 8h, which as in past years will close at night since the departure will take place at 14; 00 and the arrival will be at 22; 00, always considering the times of Sakhir.
In addition, both races will be held on the 5.4km layout of the track, so the hypothesis used by F1 last year, when one of the two GPs was faced on the “ring” version, was not taken into consideration.
Finally, it was decided to assign 25 points to those who win the 6h and 38 to those who win the 8h, while on Sunday 7 November, Case and team will be able to work with rookie drivers in the tests dedicated to them with prototypes and GTEs. .
“It will be interesting to see the different strategies that the teams will adopt for this first ‘double’ of the championship – said Frédéric Lequien, CEO of the FIA WEC – It will certainly provide two different types of races, having a race completely in the light of day and the final of season ending much later in the night. We can’t wait to return to Sheikh Salman’s Kingdom and crown our new world champions. “
Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, CEO of Bahrain International Circuit, added: “These two races in a row should offer a variety of challenges for teams and drivers. We look forward to welcoming all participants to Bahrain, for what we hope will be an extremely exciting conclusion to the season. “
