Earlier this month, the Prancing Horse manufacturer unveiled an image of its highly anticipated LMH for the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship and plans to begin testing in July at Fiorano.
In anticipation of this, the Prancing Horse team let some of its standard bearers try the Oreca 07-Gibson managed by AF Corse in Vallelunga, as reported by the French website Endurance-Info.
James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi, Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina were joined by Davide Rigon and the two who race in the World Championship with AF’s Oreca LMP2, namely Nicklas Nielsen and Alessio Rovera.
Ferrari has not yet announced who will be part of its Hypercar lineup in the WEC next year, but it is likely to use at least some of its current GT members.
“It was just a matter of understanding what it was like to have more aerodynamics and braking, in order to be ready for when we start work with the Hypercar,” Calado told Motorsport.com about the test. .
“I’ve spent most of my career in formula cars, so it’s something you never forget. At the beginning you have a different feeling, but then you immediately feel at ease and in a few laps you reach the limit.” .
“We are all satisfied with how the test went and we can’t wait to unveil the Hypercar.”
Fuoco, who joined the Ferrari GTE Pro this year, told Motorsport.com: “It was a little different from the GT car, but already in 2021 I had participated in the 24h of Daytona with an LMP2, so I already had some experience with that type of car “.
“In terms of riding and everything, it’s pretty similar. You always have to adapt your style. But with more downforce I felt more comfortable.”
Calado, who finished second at Le Mans along with Pier Guidi and Daniel Serra, did not want to specify whether the test means that he will certainly be part of the Hypercar crew for next year.
“The decision rests with our boss, Antonello Coletta. In any case, I am proud to be part of Ferrari and the team, and there has been a lot of development work behind the scenes.”
“He will make the right decision and we will accept whatever is given to us.”
Fuoco, who in addition to the WEC also works on the simulator for the Formula 1 team, added: “I’m still very young, but to be part of this family you have to give your best every day and be very professional because it is a team that is very “.
“I’ve been here for some time, so I really hope to be able to stay there for a long time.”
