Weather|Southern Finland may experience the first frosty or freezing night of autumn during the weekend.
The usual warmer weather will continue in southern Finland for the next few days, says the meteorologist on duty at the Finnish Meteorological Institute Tuomo Bergman. However, the weather is expected to get colder by the weekend.
Temperatures can rise up to 20 degrees in the southern and central parts of the country on Thursday. On the southern coast, fog clouds may appear in the morning, but otherwise the weather is expected to be clear. In other parts of the country, the temperature is around 15–20 degrees.
However, according to Bergman, the weather will change on Thursday evening and the night before Friday, when a strong low pressure area moves north of Finland. A cool air mass is transported to the ground with it.
“We can talk about the first burst of cold air in autumn,” says Bergman.
Cold the air mass will not be visible in southern Finland until Friday. At that time, according to Bergman, it will still be around 20 degrees warmer to the south.
In Lapland, on the other hand, it will already be clearly colder on Friday, as, for example, in Northern Lapland it will only be around five degrees. Wind warnings have been issued for the northern parts of the country on Friday.
The weather will also start to cool down in the south during the weekend, as a maximum temperature of 15 degrees has been promised for Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, fog clouds may appear in the south, which will also moderate the temperatures.
“The drop in temperatures can be seen in the south, especially on weekends. It’s very possible that the south can get the first proper frosty or frosty night of autumn at that time,” says Bergman.
During the weekend, slight snow or sleet may also occur in Northern Lapland, the Finnish Meteorological Institute said message service in X.
However, according to Bergman, the warm weather is not quite over yet. The southern parts of the country are promised to warm up again at the beginning of next week.
