Confusion, worry and fear. The dozens of neighbors affected by the collapse of a building in La Albericia and the eviction of three others continue in the vicinity, crowded behind the security cordons waiting to be able to access their homes between nerves and uncertainty. Given the situation, emergency services have installed a hospital and tent in the area to care for residents with food and drinksand they have offered them a transfer to the Princesa Leticia reception center or any benefit they need.
Most of them woke up around 4:00 in the morning due to a strong explosion, according to testimonies reported to Europa Press. “We thought a terrorist had planted a bomb”said a young neighbor, who was able to leave his home on the ground floor of the collapsed building with his four family members and his two dogs, and which did not collapse.
“Ten more seconds and we won’t count it”
“We left the house and found a lot of white smoke. “The door was stuck but we were able to open it and when we came out we found this.”he detailed. “Ten more seconds and we won’t count it. The beams were consuming“, he stated. He also explained that two of his neighbors had to escape from their houses by jumping out of the windows.
MANY WAIT TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS THEIR HOMES FOR THEIR PETS AND THINGS
Many of the neighbors, worried about their pets, have not wanted to leave the place until they can go in to look for them. This is the case of another of those affected, who explained that he and his wife woke up “with a shock wave”, after which “I ran out into the street with everything I was wearing to help”. Now he hopes to go in for his cat.
Medical personnel and equipment have also been sent to the scene with several ambulance crews, police officers, National and Local Police, Civil Protection, Red Cross and Social Services of Santander, including a psychosocial cabinet. In addition, they have been provided with blankets and warm clothing to a municipal bus to be covered and sit while they wait, on a cool morning.
