The manufacturers of gaming devices are clear: the future of this type of entertainment, in part, involves improving the feeling of immersion that the player has when he holds the controller in his hands and has his eyes fixed on the screen. And few companies are betting as hard in this area as Razer, which even has its own haptic vibration available in several of its products, such as the recent Kishi Ultra.
Now the brand has gone one step further and has seen fit to include this technology in its brand new pad for gaming chairs. freyjaavailable for purchase for a few months now. The system includes six motors that vibrate depending on what happens on the screen, and that have this function natively compatible with video games such as ‘Final Fantasy XVI’ or the recent ‘remake’ of ‘Silent Hill 2’, which for us appears among the best video games we receive in 2024.
Easy and comfortable
The installation process of the device is not very complicated, basically, you place it on top of the chair and tie it with some elastic straps that it incorporates at the top and bottom, and that can be tightened more tightly if necessary. We have tested the ‘gadget’ on an Iskur V2 of the same brand in which the attachment in the back area is perfect; However, there should be no problem using the device on chairs from other companies.
Regarding comfort, there are no complaints. The pad is covered in foam and with it on you can save having to put the classic cushion in the lumbar area. You won’t need it. The hardest areas, where the device’s motors are housed, are not a problem. You can be sitting on it, even working all day, and not even realize it.
The pad has a power cable on one side, accompanied by buttons to turn on the system or manually raise or lower the vibration. Regarding the installation process, everything is simple. Freyja incorporates a USB that must be connected to the computer (at least for the moment, the ‘gadget’ is not compatible with consoles, although it is quite likely that this will change soon) and a plug for power. You do this, and that’s it. Ready to open the video game and start the game. The user should also know that the pad can be used with Android tablets and smartphones via Bluetooth and the Razer Nexus app.
Video games… and cinema
Then, if the user wants to get the most out of the device, they can download the Razer Synapse 4 software, which allows the vibration to be further adjusted to the user’s taste; it is even possible to make specific changes to each of the six motors. However, what we like most about this program is that it allows you to select through the Sensa HD configuration, which allows you to have the ideal vibration for the video game according to its developers. At the moment it is only compatible with around twenty games, including ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ in addition to the already mentioned ‘Silent Hill 2’ and ‘Final Fantasy XVI’.
The experience of feeling the explosions, falls and blows running through your body makes the immersive experience even more intense. And I hope Razer continues to follow this path in the future with similar products.
Furthermore, thanks to the ‘Audio-to-Haptics’ option, which can also be configured, Freyja collects the sound that is lodged on the screen and recreates it in the form of vibration, something that comes in handy if the user wants to use this ‘gadget’. ‘, for example, to watch movies. It can also be good for music, although it is less likely that the user will regularly use the device for this purpose.
Is it worth it?
The device can get a little damaged during play time, but we warn you that we are not talking about something that is a problem. You are not going to burn yourself when you use it. Within the realm of musts: we would have liked the list of games compatible with Sensa HD, with which the experience improves considerably, to be somewhat longer, but it is not at all ruled out that Razer continues to expand the list in the future. Be that as it may, the main problem with the ‘gadget’, in our opinion, is the lack of compatibility with consoles such as PS5 or Xbox Series. I hope the brand decides to change it soon.
All in all, taking into account what it offers the player, Freyja seems like a very interesting gadget for the PC gamer who wants to have the most realistic gaming experience possible. Its price, 300 euros, does not seem crazy to us considering what it offers and how original the proposal is.
