This year’s are the most desired patron saint festivities by the town of Santomera, which has been since 2018 without enjoying a 100% program of events. “It is something that we have been able to verify,” adds the Councilor for Celebrations, Javier Campillo, who encourages the entire Region of Murcia to approach the municipality from tomorrow, when they officially start, until October 7, Patron Saint’s Day, the Virgin of the Rosary.

Three years later, Santomera recovers the usual format of its patron saint festivities. How are your neighbors experiencing the arrival of these long-awaited dates?
-Of course, with many, many desires. In 2019, DANA deprived us of some important activities, in 2020 we had to cancel all the parties due to the pandemic and last year, still with restrictions, we had to give up the most massive proposals and stick to an almost exclusively cultural program. After so many anomalous situations, we can finally get back to normal, so these are surely the most anticipated parties in memory. It is something that we have also been able to confirm during the celebrations that we have enjoyed in recent months, such as the Moors and Christians Festival or the patron saints of El Siscar and La Matanza. For this reason, we also wanted them to be the best.

Music, gastronomy, sports, children’s activities, culture, religious events… Is it easy to design such a wide-ranging, popular festival program for all ages?
I can’t say it’s easy. [ríe], although part of the work is facilitated by two circumstances. The first, that it is quite traditional festivals, which, although with variations, have been repeating more or less the same formula for years; the second, and more important, that we have the extraordinary involvement of our associations and clubs, who make an effort so that we can enjoy three weeks with a cultural, sports and leisure program of great interest.

The acts of worship in honor of the Virgen del Rosario arouse emotions in the town of Santomera. How do the neighbors live the different expressions of faith?
-For an important part of our population, the patron saint continues to be the main reason these days. This is demonstrated in the Novenario services, with which each neighborhood honors it, and especially in the offering and the mass that closes the program, two of the most massive activities of the festivities.

The Bando de la Huerta, Sanvino and the Town Hall Day lunch return. Is the desire to vibrate again with these emblematic events in the air?
-Without a doubt, these are three of the appointments that we miss the most. In short, the festivities are joy and conviviality, and these three examples possibly constitute the most massive proposals, together with the activities of the Güertana Zone, the Tour de Cañas, the popular bike ride and the great concerts. I would like to make a special mention to the Bando de la Huerta, on October 1, and to Sanvino, from September 22 to 24 -this year its location is being moved to the cemetery’s park-and-ride-, for being the ones that attract the most attention in the rest of the Region.

What other main dishes does this year’s program include?
-In my opinion, we have managed to square, perhaps, the most powerful cultural programming in our history. We will have top artists such as Camela, Miss Caffeina, Shinova, Los de Marras and Belter Souls; We will have music for all tastes, thanks also to the DJs of the San Festival, the orchestras La Tribu and Tokyo Band, the different lyrical galas planned or the Euterpe band. Dance will once again have an important weight thanks to the show offered by local studios and we will remember traditions with the Folklore Festival and the trovera gala. In addition, I recommend following the Fast Painting Contest, consolidated as one of the most outstanding in the Region, we will laugh with the show ‘La voz del becario’ and we will enjoy the theater, where the work of Antonio Ozores stands out ‘The last one to turn off the light’. In short, I think there are very attractive proposals for all ages and tastes, the vast majority completely free.
