The regional coordinator of the purple training, Javier Sánchez Serna, considers that this movement “would mean an important investment and a source of indirect jobs”, as well as “a guarantee for the recovery of the Mar Menor”
The regional coordinator of Podemos and deputy of United Podemos in Congress, Javier Sánchez Serna, held a meeting this Thursday with the Minister of Science, Diana Morant, in which he requested the transfer of the headquarters of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) to Cartagena, according to party sources in a statement.
This request comes within the framework of the administrative decentralization process opened by the Government of Spain, a context that Unidos Podemos will try to take advantage of to request the transfer of this infrastructure to the port city, from its current location, in Madrid.
Sánchez Serna criticized that “the president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, announced that he was not going to request anything from the Government of Spain,” and denounced that the strategy of the Murcian chief executive “only seeks confrontation and victimhood.”
Thus, he regretted that “getting things for the Region of Murcia is more difficult and costs more work than devoting oneself to throwing balls out and blaming others for all the evils.” Faced with this, “United Podemos is the one who has to request resources, infrastructure and investments for our community,” he said.
In line, he indicated that something similar happened during the negotiation of the General State Budgets, which «make the Region the Autonomous Community that receives the most money per inhabitant, 723 million, almost double the money that Rajoy allocated to the Region in his last year of government ».
The leader of the ‘morada’ formation explained that the transfer of the IEO, which is now in Madrid, “more than 300 kilometers from the sea,” to a coastal city, “seems purely logical.” The deputy considers that Cartagena is the most suitable location, since “the critical situation of the Mar Menor has highlighted the need to study and take care of our seas and oceans.” In addition, he pointed out that the IEO “already has a center in San Pedro del Pinatar and an experimental plant in Mazarrón”, so it could better coordinate its action, which would be “a shock” for the IEO itself after “a few very years critics and a process of integration in the CSIC that does not finish curdling ».
The deputy also stressed that for the city this transfer “would also involve a significant investment and a source of indirect jobs.” The installation of the headquarters of the National Institute of Oceanography in the Region of Murcia would also be “a guarantee for the recovery of the Mar Menor.”
“Perhaps that is why López Miras does not want to request anything during the decentralization process. He does not want witnesses of what is happening, but from United We Can we are going to do everything possible to join forces to save the lagoon and end an environmental crime that has crossed our borders and that will have direct consequences on the economy and exports. of the Region of Murcia “, concluded Sánchez Serna.
