Hundreds of volunteers from all over the Emirates joined the “We are with you” initiative to prepare emergency relief packages for women and children affected by the ongoing floods in Pakistan. The campaign was able to prepare 1,200 tons of food, health and hygiene items, including 30,000 food packages. The UAE was among the first countries to provide emergency support to those affected, as relief packages will be delivered to Pakistan urgently.
The community volunteer event witnessed the participation of citizens and residents of all ages and nationalities in three locations across the country, as it was organized in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC), the “Expo City”, and the “Expo Center Sharjah”. The Emirates Red Crescent Authority, Dubai Cares and the Sharjah Charity Association launched the “We are with you” initiative in coordination with the Ministry of Community Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and with the support of nine other Emirati humanitarian institutions, including the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works and the Mohammed bin Zayed Foundation. Rashid Al Maktoum for Charitable and Humanitarian Works, the Big Heart Foundation, Dar Al Ber, the International City for Humanitarian Services, the Emirates Water Foundation, the Sharjah Charity House, the International Charitable Organization, the Emirates Charitable Association, the National Volunteer Platform under the supervision of the Ministry of Community Development, and the volunteer platform of the Community Development Authority Dubai, and the Sharjah Center for Voluntary Work. As part of this community event, volunteers participated through groups of different teams to support the assembly of two types of relief packages, including food and hygiene kits.
Food packages included flour, rice, lentils and oil, among other non-perishable items, while hygiene packages included basic personal hygiene items for women and children, such as diapers, sanitary napkins, soap, and others.
Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi, Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, praised the role of volunteers in supporting and making the “We are with you” initiative to reduce the humanitarian repercussions of the floods disaster in Pakistan.
