The renowned American newspaper Washington Post announced this Sunday (2), through a statement, the departure of Sally Buzbee from the position of executive editor, a role she held for the last three years.
Initially, she will be replaced by Matt Murray, former editor-in-chief of Wall Street Journal (WSJ), who is expected to lead the newspaper’s editorial staff until the presidential elections in November. After that, Robert Winnett, deputy editor of the British newspaper, takes over Telegraph.
The new name will be responsible for overseeing “the main areas of coverage, including politics, investigations, business, technology, sports and reporting”, says the note.
The Post also announced on Sunday a structural change in the newsroom with the launch of a new division dedicated to service journalism and social media, which will operate separately from the main news operation.
The new sector will focus on video storytelling, adopting artificial intelligence, the statement said. The new writing division will come into effect in the third quarter of this year.
