Blinken had said earlier Thursday that he had sent a letter to Lavrov, proposing a meeting next week in Europe.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said Blinken offered to meet Lavrov “in Europe next week. The Russians responded with a proposal for dates at the end of next week, which we agreed to as long as there was no Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
This comes at a time when the office of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that US President Joe Biden will organize, on Friday, a remote meeting on the Ukrainian crisis with the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Britain, the European Union and NATO.
