War Russia Ukraine, Europe rejects refugees from Belarus and fleeing wars in the Middle East
On the border between Poland Belarus And Ukraine under Russian attack, a humanitarian strategic crossroads continues, especially in Belarusian territory, from whose bases the Russian assault lines on the northern front departed in the direction of Kiev.
In summary: the Belarusian dictator Lukashenko (or Lukashenka, in a more Belarusian style), the highest Russian-European vassal of the Kremlin, has in recent times literally imported refugees from Middle Eastern war theaters as a bargaining chip and blackmail with the EU in the previous migrant emergency; Now the changed priorities due to the war in Ukraine push Lukashenko himself to get rid of these hostagesmostly families with children, pushing them against the fences and the Polish soldiers, who push them back, while only a few kilometers further south other Polish soldiers welcome other families with children with hot tea, European and Ukrainian ones, equally deserving of safety, care , asylum.
These are the values of the West that are now required to defend even with our weapons? To reject families with children as well as people, of all ages, who have almost always escaped conflicts for other reasons directly or indirectly caused by our NATO countries, but transeat? The disparity between war refugeesbetween human beings more or less à la modefalls within the scope of an acceptable realpolitik, and above all acceptable apertis verbis, precisely at the moment of “show the flag“of the virtues of the so-called first world as opposed to the second, as well as the third?
Let us explain the situation better by Silvia Cavazzini, human rights activist for Gandhi Charity and Hope & Humanity Polandsent to the Polish-Belarusian border.
Silvia, what is the refugee emergency in progress at the moment, between two borders and the neutral zone?
“At the moment they are still there according to the estimates of the Hope & Humanity Poland group about 2 thousand people in Belarus who would like to arrive in Europe to apply for international protection. These are Syrians, Iraqis including many Kurds (the Kurds fought against Isis / Daesh ed), Iranians, Afghans, Yemenis, Egyptians, some Cubans fleeing Russia and some Africans (Somalis and Cameroonians).
With the imminent entry of Belarus into the war, Lukashenko has decided to permanently get rid of the refugee problem (which he himself sent with tourist visas from August onwards): the government is giving clear instructions to the border guards to force the approximately five hundred people who are still in the Bruzgi camp to go to Poland and to deport or imprison all migrants hiding right now in Minsk. In general, those who are still hidden in Belarus try the way to the forest for the best weather conditions and for the fear of war, as well as for the fact that it is now for us it is impossible, due to the closure of the banks, to send support to these people, who are suffering from hunger. But there is a big, fundamental difference compared to the previous months: while before the Belarusian border guards allowed those who could not pass on the Polish side to return to Belarus, now the government’s provisions require that no one return.
The migrants are therefore blocked in the so-called buffer zonea neutral zone between Poland and Belarus, bordered by two barbed wire fences: at this moment more than 100 people are at risk of dying of starvation under the eyes of the Polish border guardswho throw tear gas at him to make them go away, and the Belarusian border guards, who shoot shots in the air, beat migrants and free the dogs (several people have already died from dog bites in the course of these months, as has been the case for some time on the border with Croatia). The level of barbarism and violence is very high. Even if these people manage to enter Polish territory, Poland pushes the migrants back to the buffer zone without taking into consideration their asylum request, in contravention of the European Convention for Human Rights“.
