Ukrainian war, Putin’s advance on the ground has stalled
On the twenty-fourth day of the war, the Russian offensive in Ukraine appears in one stalled on most fronts. According to US intelligence sources, Moscow forces deployed 30 kilometers east of Kiev are facing fierce resistance. Russian troops are also making little progress in Chernihiv, in the north, and in Karkhiv, the country’s second city, now besieged and the target of heavy bombing.
According to the British Minister of Defense, the Russian army continues to struggle with logistical problems, related not only to the distance between the lines but to the constant Ukrainian attacks on supply chains. Where the Moscow offensive seems to have reached a turning point is in Mariupol: here the Ukrainian army has admitted that it does not have sufficient forces to break the blockade of the port city, where over 300,000 civilians have been trapped, for two weeks without electricity , heating and water and with supplies of food and medicines now exhausted.
In Mariupol, Russian forces have managed to enter the city and street fighting is complicating the rescue operations to free the hundreds of people trapped in the basement of the bombed theater. The battle is raging in the city center and the fighting is particularly fierce in the steel mill areaone of the largest Ukrainian industrial plants.
The information is conflicting. Yesterday a Ukrainian government official claimed that the factory had fallen into the hands of the Russians. Vladislav Sobolievskyi, a member of the Azov battalion, a nationalist militia very present in Mariupol, declared on Ukrainian television that the steel mill was under their control. Vadym Denysenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, said that the plant was completely destroyed by intense aerial bombardments that did not stop hammering the city.
Ukrainian war, Putin launches his supermissile Kinzhal
In the South West, a Mykolaiv, the budget of yesterday’s Russian raid on some barracks where Ukrainian soldiers were trained is still unclear. According to reporters on the spot, the dead are over 40. The mayor of the city, Oleksandr Senkevich, spoke of a “difficult situation”, with numerous surrounding villages in the hands of the Russians. Mykolaiv is located east of the strategic port of Odessa and the forces of Moscow, after trying in vain to circumvent it to the north, have resorted to artillery.
Russian forces have announced that they have used, for the first time since the start of operations, Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missiles that would destroy an underground missile depot and air munitions in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Moscow also reported the destruction of three S-300 air defense missile systems and Ukrainian intelligence radio surveillance centers in Velykyi Dalnyk and Velykodolynske, Odessa region.
Kiev, for its part, reported that i Russian soldiers who have lost their lives since the beginning of the war number 14,400 and a fifth Russian general has died in battle. It would be Andrei Mordvichev, who fell under the blows of artillery in Chernobayevka.
