Russian shelling of Lutsk leaves at least two Ukrainian soldiers dead and six wounded
Russia has attacked three new cities in Ukraine this Friday. Russian troops have bombed Dnipro, in the east of the country, where at least one person has died, and also Lutsk and Ivano-Frankivsk, both in the west. The one in Lutsk is located just 87 kilometers from the border with Poland and the bombing of this city has left at least two soldiers dead and six wounded, as explained by the governor of the region, Yuriy Pohulyayko, in a video on his website. Facebook.
The Russian Defense Ministry has indicated that the attacks have been carried out with “long-range” and “high-precision” weapons and has added that two Ukrainian air bases in Ivano-Frankivsk and Lutsk “have been put out of service”, without giving more details, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS.
Mijailo Podoliak, one of the advisers to the Presidency of Ukraine, has denounced that “large cities in Ukraine are once again subjected to devastating blows” and has pointed out that, in addition to the bombings against Ivano-Frankivsk and Lustsk, the city has been hit from Dnipro (center-east). “Russia’s destructive war against the civilians and big cities of Ukraine continues,” Podoliak said.
The attacks are the first against these three cities since the beginning of the Russian military offensive, which began after Putin recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ruslan Martsinkiv, has confirmed the attacks on the city on his Facebook page, according to the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN. “Please do not distribute photos and videos of the explosions. We are investigating why the alarm systems did not sound,” he said, before noting that the airport was hit in the attack. (Agencies and EL PAÍS)
