Last Wednesday, September 21, Russia and Ukraine exchanged soldiers who had been captured during the war.
The Ukrainian side handed over pro-Russian leader Viktor Medcechuc and 55 other prisoners, in exchange for the Kremlin returning 215 fighters from Zelensky’s nation.
Among the surrendered combatants is Mykhailo Dianov, musician and soldier, whose photos of before and after captivity have gone around the world due to his evident physical deterioration

The concern of Dianov’s family grew when they began to see him with his right arm injured as a result of the war taking place in Ukraine.

“It is not a pity to hand over Medvedchuk in exchange for true warriors,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a post on his website.
For his part, Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, celebrated the exchange of soldiers calling it a “no minor” gesture, however he says that there is much to be done to end the suffering caused by the war.
