In Cardiff Argentina with one man less runs away, but Tomos Williams takes it back in the final. New Zealand overwhelms Fiji 57-23 with 4 hooker tries, England scores 10 to Canada, Lions 11 to Sharks
Wales with one more man for 50 minutes suffer terribly with Argentina, but in the final Tomos Williams’ try is worth 20-20 in the test played in Cardiff. At Twickenham England scores 10 tries and overwhelms Canada 70-14. On the other hand, we sail on sight on the British & Irish Lions tour in South Africa: the team led by Warren Gatland defeated the Sharks 71-31 scoring 11 tries. The All Blacks opened the day, defeating Fiji 57-23 in Dunedin with a balance of 9 to 2 tries.
Equal and poker
In Cardiff Argentina unlocked it in the 17 ‘with an easy placement by Nicolas Sanchez from under the posts granted by Aaron Wainwright, however put in trouble by a bad choice of the Callum Sheedy opening, which however made up again shortly after inserting the posts for an offside by Rodrigo Bruni and then in the 27th minute for the 6-3. At 28 ‘, yet another call to scrum, the referee loses his patience and gives a double yellow card to the props Dillon Lewis and Nahuel Tetaz. Pumas with one man less from 29 ‘for the red to Juan Cruz Mallia, who misses the measure of the tackle and goes with his head to impact that of Kieran Hardy: there is no malice, but the penalty is inevitable. But in the final half of the time the guests run away: first a place by Sanchez, then from a deep touch in the 22 they break through the defensive line in red and it is Pablo Matera to crush. Sanchez transforms and at rest it goes to 13-6. At 46 ‘Sanchez runs away from the defenders, digs a break and on the tackle offers in offload the oval in the center Jeronimo de la Fuente, who flies in goal (and which the opening transforms). To reopen it thinks the second line Will Rowlands, who finalizes a patient attack orchestrated by the forwards and embellished by the beautiful passage of Tomos Williams (Jarrod Evans transforms). Between 55 ‘and 58’ Sanchez misses two places, then in the 72nd minute Wales finds the draw: invention by Tomos Williams, who collects the oval at the foot of the scrum, observes the situation and then suddenly runs away towards the closed side and crushes. Evans transforms and sanctions the final 20-20. Shortly after, in fact, Domingo Miotti (who took over from Sanchez) misses a not impossible kick and then even Evans misses the goalposts. In Dunedin for New Zealand the road was cleared with 3 goals in the first 21 minutes (Jordie Barrett and a brace from David Havili), but Fiji remain in the game with that of Albert Tuise and 2 placed by Ben Volavola. In the second half, however, after the question and answer between George Bridge and Mesu Kunavula, Dane Coles is unleashed, who enters in the 50 ‘instead of Codie Taylor and scores 4 tries in the space of 23 minutes. In between that of Will Jordan and 6 transformations of Beauden Barrett to pack the final 57-23.
Lions and Lions
At Twickenham England easily solves Canada practice: 70-14 with hat-tricks from Jamie Blamire and Adam Radwan, double from Jack Cokanasiga, a try by Ellis Genge, a technique and 9/10 transformations by Marcus Smith. Tell the goals scored by the Lions in 71-31 to the Sharks: by Jamie George (2), Chris Harris, Duhan van der Merwe, Tadhg Beirne (2), Jack Conan, Elliot Daly, Anthony Watson (2) and Tom Curry, with 8 transformations by Dan Biggar. Next week’s program is definitely on the high seas. Indeed, it is not even certain that the next two games can be played in Johannesburg as planned, rather perhaps in Cape Town, where the Lions will move tomorrow. The order of the next two games should also reverse: the Stormers on Wednesday and South Africa A on Saturday. This is to give the South African national team time to control the Covid outbreak that broke out in the camp. And it is precisely in Cape Town on the 24th that the series with the world champions Springboks should start: still too far away to sketch realistic hypotheses.
