Sahra Wagenknecht’s new party wants to win the upcoming state elections in Saxony. The topics: Ukraine war, migration policy and a Corona committee.
Dresden – muzzle or opinion? This is the title of an election poster from the Alliance party Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW). The newly founded party is hoping for a lot in the upcoming state elections in eastern Germany. But how is Wagenknecht trying to attract voters in the East?
The 64 members of the Saxony regional association want to soon nominate their candidates for the state parliament and decide on an election program. “Saxony’s future: peaceful, sensible, fair” is the title of a preliminary version of the program Mirror exclusive is present. The party’s ambitions become clear in the foreword: they want to help govern the BSW. “The chance that we can co-govern Saxony and thus implement actual changes is real,” as it says in the foreword. They want to prevent “the established parties from continuing like this”.
The Ukraine war is an issue for Wagenknecht and BSW in the state elections in Saxony
The first chapter entitled “Peace” briefly deals with what is contrary to international law Ukraine war. “We condemn Russia’s attack on Ukraine, which violates international law,” writes the BSW. The party is also calling for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations without preconditions.
Previously, Wagenknecht had repeatedly sharply criticized Germany’s Ukraine policy. In the election program for the European election The party is also calling for a stop to arms exports to Ukraine Wladimir Putin to the negotiating table, among other things World reported.
For Saxony specifically, the alliance is not demanding any soldiers from Saxon locations NATO-To send to the eastern flank. “We will not support the establishment of defense companies in Saxony,” the BSW continues. The party also wants to oppose the Bundeswehr’s recruitment of young talent in schools and ban “military or civil defense classes”.
The corona pandemic and migration policy are intended to win voters in the east for the BSW
For Wagenknecht’s party it is clear that the opposition is also to blame for an escalation of the war in Ukraine. “Every vote for the CDU in the state elections in Saxony is also a tailwind for Friedrich Merz, who wants to drag us even deeper into the Ukraine war by delivering Taurus missiles.”
The handling of the corona pandemic should also be closely examined. A corona investigation committee in Saxony is supposed to investigate errors and also summon Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and the doctor and virologist Christian Drosten.
Wagenknecht also wants to approach migration policy differently, for example by introducing a nationwide payment card for refugees. Those required to leave the country, on the other hand, should only receive benefits in kind. Especially because of its right-wing conservative migration policy, the BSW is difficult to place in the political spectrum. Wagenknecht looks to Denmark as a model for stricter refugee policy. Denmark shows how one can regain control, as the 54-year-old expressed herself about the refugee situation in Germany.
Zimmermann and Scheibe as top candidates for the state elections in Saxony
“Of course many people would like that to finally happen uncontrolled immigration will be brought under control“, said Wagenknecht in an interview with Sterns already in November last year. The number of refugees coming to Germany is currently declining again. In the first four months of 2024, 85,000 people sought protection in Germany. A total decrease of 17,000 compared to the previous year, like that Augsburger Allgemeine calculated.
According to information from mirror The two BSW chairmen for Saxony, Sabine Zimmermann and Jörg Scheibe, will lead the list for the coming election. And the chances for the BSW in the Saxony election are good. According to surveys for the end of March to the beginning of April, the BSW is currently at 11 percent. This means that the alliance has a realistic chance of taking part in forming a government after the state elections. (sir)
