The Vueling company inaugurated the Barcelona-Tromsø flight this Saturday, becoming the first airline to offer a direct connection from the Catalan capital to this destination, the gateway to the Norwegian Arctic.
The first flight, VY8540, took off today at 7:56 a.m. from El Prat and arrived at Tromsø airport at 12:22 p.m., the airline reported.
The city of Tromsø is known worldwide as one of the best places to witness the Northern Lights, for its strategic location within the Arctic Circlesurrounded by mountains and spectacular fjords; and also for hiking, skiing and wildlife safaris, Vueling has highlighted.
Until January 11, 2025, coinciding with the upcoming Christmas holidays, Vueling will operate this new route every Saturday from Barcelona to Tromsø-Langnes airport, your northernmost destination.
Tromsø has received this first Vueling flight in a special way giving a warm welcome to passengers to celebrate the start of this connection, the company stated.
Passengers have traveled on a customized plane with headrests inspired by this destination and have enjoyed aboard Typical Norwegian sweets.
This new connection joins the recovery of the special route Barcelona-Rovaniemi, the capital of Laplandin Finland, which will be available until January 11 with two weekly frequencies, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Vueling, a company belonging to the IAG group and which this year celebrates its 20 years of historyis an airline that has its main base in Barcelona-El Prat, and in other relevant markets in Spain, such as Bilbao; and at an international level, it is working to strengthen its presence in bases such as London-Gatwick or Paris-Orly.
In 2024, the company has a network of 250 routes during the year that connect 30 countries. Operates 215,000 flights annually and during 2023 it transported 36.8 million passengers.
