The secretary general of the Vox Parliamentary Group, José Maria Figaredo, said Tuesday that the accident happened on March 31 at the Cerredo mine, in Asturias, is “a negligence or a case of corruption that has cost lives” and considered “fundamental to purify the responsibilities of the Government, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and of the Regional Authorities.”
This has been indicated by Figaredo at a press conference from the Congress of Deputies, where he said that, on this “tragic accident” in which five miners died, “we found” before “a case of very serious negligence of the autonomic and national administration” or “before a new case of socialist corruption, which is what begins to seem.”
In this sense, he stressed that “we find an exploitation that obtained a license in less than a month” when “the public administration does not grant in less than a month not even the previous appointment.” In addition, he has struck that they gave “a type of permit that has been called complementary exploration” that “does not appear in the law of mines” or in the mines regulations.
In addition to this, he has warned that “complaints had been filed” before the accident. Specifically, “a claim” on March 12 before the responsible agency in the regional administration “specifying all the irregularities that were occurring in this mine” and that was “absolutely ignored.”
He also recalled that in 2022 “another death has already occurred” in Cerredo. «At that time the mine was exploited by a society led by the wife of whom in the end controlled the exploitation. Currently, the Blue Solving company is administered precisely by the son of that same person who controlled that exploitation and that it is also.
That is, “we see that who had the reins of the exploitation is the same person, remains in that exploitation through screen companies.” In addition to that, Figaredo has denounced that “he was granted aid of almost 1 million euros by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, so we see that the national authorities are not out of this case either.”
In turn, he regretted that so far “we are almost used to socialist corruption costs the Spaniards, but this time socialist corruption has cost lives.” “Sadly is not the first time, we already saw it in Valencia, where the neglect of functions and the omission of the duty of relief of the PSOE has cost lives too.”
VOX requests an investigation commission
For its part, Vox has requested that an investigation commission be held in the Asturian Parliament, to which the Popular Party has accessed, but “is negotiating with we can grant the presidency” of it. “The PP seems to be willing to make the Investigation Commission become a controlled pantomime nothing more and nothing less than Podemos,” Figaredo denounced.
To achieve “knowing the truth”, he has advanced that Vox recorded in the Congress of Deputies a battery of initiatives in which he asks for “what was the authorization granted, why and under what pretext; What was the entire administrative file, and what activities could be developed under that authorization.
His party also wants to know in which criteria the granting of that subsidy of almost 1 million euros from the Ministry of Ecological Transition to a company “in the end directed by who had already been involved in cases of illegal exploitation of this same mine”, as well as “what the investigation consisted and what elements were taken into account”.
