Volvo Trucks announced the delivery of 15 heavy electric trucks to Primafrio, a Spanish logistics company. Sales of heavy electric trucks in Europe are growing, and many logistics operators are interested in running an increasing share of their fleets with electric and zero-emission vehicles. The Primafrio Group, an international logistics company based in southeastern Spain, specializes in the refrigerated transport of fruit and vegetables from Spain and Portugal to other European countries. Primafrio has invested in 15 Volvo FH Electric trucks, among the first heavy electric trucks to be used on Spanish roads. They will be operational as early as January 2023.
Electric trucks will be used for regional transport of fruit and vegetables from the plantations of the Murcia region, known as the “garden of Europe”, to the Primafrio factories, before continuing on to Germany. Primafrio is a logistics service provider for EDEKA, the largest food retail chain in Germany. Primafrio has invested in its own charging infrastructure, with ten fast chargers installed in its facilities. Volvo is the first global manufacturer to start series production of heavy electric trucks in September 2022, and has the widest range of electric trucks in the industry. Volvo Trucks’ goal is to reach an electric share of 50% of total sales of heavy-duty trucks by 2030.
“We are delighted to be able to help make part of the logistics chain carbon-neutral, and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles – explained Giovanni Bruno, CEO of Volvo Trucks Spain – The delivery of these 15 electric trucks to the Primafrio Group is a milestone in the era of heavy transport in our country, demonstrating that productivity, performance and sustainability can go hand in hand”.
