The volume of services in Brazil grew 1.1% in July, compared to June 2022, in the seasonally adjusted series. The data was released by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) this Tuesday (13.Sep.2022).
In the series without seasonal adjustment, the volume of services had its 17th consecutive positive rate, rising 6.3% compared to July 2021. The accumulated for the year reached 8.5%. The accumulated index for the last 12 months is at 9.6%, maintaining a downward trend since April.
According to the IBGE, the growth in the volume of services was driven by transport (2.3%), information and communication (1.1%), services provided to families (0.6%). On the other hand, the category of other services (-4.2%) and professional, administrative and complementary services (-1.1%) had a negative influence on the July result.

At the regional level, 17 out of 27 Federation Units registered expansion in the volume of services in July compared to the previous month. Among the states that had positive rates are São Paulo (1.3%), followed by Minas Gerais (1.9%), Santa Catarina (3.1%), Goiás (4.7%) and Pernambuco (4. 0%).
In comparison with July 2021, the increase in the volume of services in Brazil was accompanied by 25 Federation Units, especially São Paulo (8.1%), followed by Minas Gerais (6.9%), Rio de Janeiro (3.9%).
Tourism
The index of tourist activities in Brazil grew 1.5% in July compared to the previous month, when it dropped 1.7%. Despite the advance, the segment is still 1.1% below the level before the pandemic, in February 2020.
In the 12-month period, the volume of tourist activities grew 26.5%. It is the 16th positive rate in a row, influenced by an increase in the revenue of companies operating in the restaurant business; air Transport; hotels; car rental; collective passenger road; and catering services.
From January to July, the index of tourist activities registered an increase of 41.9% compared to the same period last year. According to the IBGE, the result was driven by the increases in revenue obtained by companies in the passenger air transport sectors; restaurants; hotels; car rental; collective road transport of passengers; and catering services.
Transport
Passenger transport increased by 4.1% in July compared to the immediately previous month, in the seasonally adjusted series. As a result, the segment is 0.4% above the level of February 2020 (pre-pandemic) and 21.9% below February 2014, the highest point in the historical series.
Cargo transport set a new record by expanding 1.2% in July. As a result, it is 31.7% higher than in February 2020.
In comparison with July 2021, without seasonal adjustment, the segment increased by 24.2%. In the same period, cargo transportation grew by 15.4%.
From January to July, passenger transport grew by 41%, while cargo increased by 13.4% compared to the same period last year.
