Production at the Volkswagen headquarters is proceeding slowly. This was announced by the German car manufacturer itself, which through the mouth of its CEO Thomas Schafer made it known that the plant of Wolfsburg it is currently building less than 400,000 cars a year, which is less than half of its maximum capacity. A clean cut in production mainly dictated by the situation linked to the company’s supply chain, defined as a “total chaos“.
The number one of the German giant himself announced in recent days that Volkswagen’s suppliers were canceling deliveries with one night’s notice, and that the microchips were being sold with a price increase up to 800%. “It is a catastrophe for our business, these are absurd figures”, Schafer’s words reported by Autonews in reference to the prices of microchips on the open market. And precisely to overcome these difficulties which are visibly slowing down the assembly operations at the Wolfsburg plant, the company announced it is stipulating direct purchase agreements of components, so as to be able to better address the difficulties dictated by the shortcomings of the supply chain. Meanwhile, Volkswagen is working on the construction of a new Gigafactory for batteries: in this sense, PowerCo, a company dedicated to the battery business, and Umicore, a company specializing in materials technology, intend to extend the collaboration on cathode materials to Canada.
